Hello I have several laboratory software programs that use a parallel port to access equipment. We just got a new Windows 7 (64-bit) computer and I am trying to move all of our equipment to this machine. We are using MATLAB 2015a.
When I run the matlab scripts, I use the following code: daqhwinfo('parallel','LPT1') and get the following error:??? Error using Error using daqhwinfo (line 122) Could not get information for parallel. PARALLEL: Could not start the WINIO.SYS device driver. When I open up the Device Manager and look for non-plug and play drivers, winio.sys does not show up. I am an administrator on the computer running Matlab from an admin account.
How can I fix this? Thank you in advance for your support. In a duplicate question, the line of code is given as daqhwinfo('parallel'). WinIO appears to be from internals.com whose web site is not available at the moment. I find 32 bit downloads of it in various places, but at the moment I do not see 64 bit downloads of it (at least not places I would immediately trust.) It appears that the driver needs to be signed to be usable, and that is a problem. See the discouraging discussion. Ah, it appears the 64 bit version is WinIO64.SYS So you likely have two issues:.
You might need a signed version of the driver; and. If you only have the 32 bit version of the driver then you would need to use 32 bit MATLAB. (R2015a did support 32 bit, with R2015b being the last 32 bit version of MATLAB.).

You can install a modern Matlab/32 version under Windows/64. I had troubles with the standard folder name due to the parenthesis in '(86)'. But this could be solved easily using another folder 'C: Program86.' But due to the limited memory access in a 32 bit program, I'd prefer the 64 bit versions, if your computer has or will have more than 3GB RAM. You can install a commercial or free compiler from MSVC to compile C-files. Sometimes there are some troubles with the setup of the compiler, but this concerns all versions of Matlab and compilers.
I have installed a 32 and 64 bit version in parallel for testing, but I use the 64 bit version for productive work.

I am building a system to use the data acquisition tool to control a NI USB-6501 device to deliver a simple TTL pulse to control an instrument. I am trying to determine if I can run Win 7 64-bit as my OS and still use the digitalio function. The documentation for DAQ toolbox 2011a says you cannot use the legacy interface on 64-bit windows, but later releases 2011b and 2012a say that you can't use legacy interface with 64-bit MATLAB.
There is nothing in the release notes for the later versions that indicates there was a change pertaining to this, so what is the limiting factor 64-bit Win or MATLAB? Thanks for the help. Vw navigation updates.
